9th December 2024
For the 18th annual OF&G organic on-farm event we will be hosted on two organic farms, we’ll hear from two organic farming families, and we will hold two farm walks, all on one day.
Both farms are on the Yorkshire Wolds, both have been farming organically for 25 years, and both run a mix of enterprises.
The Sellers family, Tim, Caroline and their daughters Hester and Jessica have around 192 hectares of land and a milling operation as part of the Side Oven Bakery on the family’s Carr House Farm near Driffield.
Mike and Kate Stringer and their family farm 345 hectares organically, with some acreage under conventional management, at High Callis Wold near Stamford Bridge. Their livestock enterprises include 60 suckler cows and followers and 505 breeding ewes.
The Yorkshire Wolds is a beautiful landscape of hills rolling across the East Riding with the highest point close to High Callis Wold at around 800ft and stretching east to then slope down towards the coast.
We will again be embracing all things in food and farming with organic, agroecological and regenerative agricultural practices.
As always our event catering will be a key feature with food sourced from many local and organic ingredients, prepared by people who know how to bring out the best of flavours, colours and textures.
We will start with breakfast served at Carr House Farm. The Sellers family will give an introduction to the farm business and to the Side Oven Bakery. They will then lead us on a farm walk so we can look in detail at topics ranging from managing soils for health and for carbon, sourcing and selecting the most appropriate crop varieties for these organic systems, and even a look at how local and national marketing can work better together.

Then we’ll head off to High Callis Wold where Mike and Kate Stringer will be our hosts, and where lunch will be served before we head off on our second farm walk of NOC25, before coming back to the farmyard for a fabulous afternoon tea.

This annual gathering of organic and other likeminded food and farming people has continued every year since 2008, even through lockdown, though of course we had to go virtual in 2020, like everybody else.
One constant factor is that we showcase the organic system approach by looking through the eyes of organic farmers and share their experiences with our audience many of whom will come from across food and farming and from around the UK, and beyond.
We’ll post more details here in due course.
Meanwhile, please let us know if you would like to be involved, as a sponsor, as a trader or if you want to discuss a project you would like us to consider showcasing on the day.
We hope you can come and join us in June for what promises to be a busy and hopefully a really useful day out, on two of the UK’s leading organic farms.
