Delegates for this year’s Wales Real Food & Farming Conference (WRFFC) will be getting together on the Lampeter campus of the University of Wales Trinity St David’s (UWTSD), on November 23rd-25th to discuss the future of food in Wales and mapping out a fit for purpose, 21st century food system.
This year’s Conference will welcome veteran BBC broadcaster and food journalist Sheila Dillon as a guest speaker. Sheila has been a pioneer when it comes to sustainable food and agriculture through her work on the award-winning Food Programme.
Other guest speakers include S4C’s Ffermio presenter, Alun Elidyr; award winning author; broadcaster and nature lover Jon Gower ; organic farming pioneer Patrick Holden and food historian, Carwyn Graves.
Inspired by the Oxford Real Farming Conference, the first Wales Real Food and Farming Conference was held in Aberystwyth in 2019 and was a phenomenal success attracting over 200 delegates.
This year there will be over 30 sessions on topics such as local food partnerships, Community Supported Agriculture, school meals procurement, farm profitability, the seeds system, soil science, systems thinking in education and government.
Conference organiser Jane Powell said:
“These are challenging times, food and farming are fundamental to our society, and we have a huge opportunity here to create an inspiring vision for our future. After two years online, we’re thrilled to be running an event in person, and in Lampeter.
“We are very grateful to our sponsors which have made the conference possible, as well as all the organizations and individuals who responded to our invitation to contribute.”
Roger Kerr, chief executive of Organic Farmers & Growers and one of the Conference main sponsors said:
“We are very pleased to support the Wales Real Food and Farming Conference. As we face the current challenges it is critical that we offer greater clarity to people about how the choices they make through the food products they buy can contribute to help fight climate change and stop biodiversity loss. These are increasingly important considerations alongside the very real need to provide local food to the people of Wales.
“Only by working collaboratively can we ensure the continued resilience and strength of the Welsh farming sector and deliver a much more robust and sustainable food system.”
Other sponsors of WRFFC 2022 are Hybu Cig Cymru, Natural Resources Wales, Coed Cadw Woodland Trust, Garden Organic, Food Sense Wales, Food and Drink Wales, Soil Association Certification, and the Nature Friendly Farming Network.
