Last year, Wake Up To Organic saw 2,000 free organic breakfasts given out at 70 events. On social media, there were over 3,000 tweets using #WakeUpToOrganic on the day with a reach of 3 million.

And this year, the Organic Trade Board has announced that Wake Up To Organic will be even bigger with over 180 events taking place at independent retailers across the UK who have signed up to take part on Wednesday 14 June 2017.Wake Up To Organic

The annual campaign is designed to increase footfall and sales of organic by promoting organic breakfast items. Stores nationwide – from Brighton to Bristol, Edinburgh, London, Manchester and Norwich – have signed up to the event.

The UK’s appetite for organic food is growing, with 30% of all organic sales now through independent retailers, as consumers become more aware of the health, taste and environmental benefits of organic food.

Using breakfast as a starting point, Wake Up To Organic hopes to encourage more consumers to try organic.

Catherine Fookes, Campaign Manager at the Organic Trade Board, says: “Building on the success of Wake Up to Organic last year, we know the campaign is a great opportunity for independent retailers to communicate directly with their customers and help change attitudes to organic.Wake Up To Organic

“With organic sales through independents increasing, breakfast is an opportunity to demonstrate to customers just how simple, and beneficial, it can be to make the switch.  And for retailers the opportunity for a positive impact on sales, to help accelerate growth, at what is traditionally a quieter period in their opening hours.”

This year’s event will see independent stores, delicatessens, farm shops and cafes across the UK offer passers-by a free organic breakfast, product or coffee, to celebrate all things organic and demonstrate how easy it is to make the swap at breakfast. The campaign is an opportunity to generate extra footfall at a quieter time of day, attracting new customers into store to try organic and encouraging existing customers to try something new, with a free delicious organic mini breakfast or drink, and rewarding them for their loyalty.

Independent stores will be encouraged to link up with nationwide PR and social media activity using the hashtag #WakeUptoOrganic.
