The biggest day of our year
Date Published: 26/06/2013
It’s here! Next Tuesday sees the sixth National Organic Cereals event, organised by Organic Farmers & Growers.
We came up with the concept because it was clear that this part of the organic sector needed to spend more time in each other’s company. There was no forum to pull together expertise and research and to put variety trials in one place where you could also have a good chat with your peers over biscuits and coffee, then a sit down lunch, then tea and cake!
The inaugural event was held here in our home county of Shropshire, thanks to the Barker family of Great Berwick Farm. Such was the success and level of support that we’ve basically had no choice but to run it every year since then.
The farmers and the wider food and farming community have been nothing short of brilliant in their support and enthusiasm and we now enjoy backing in the form of sponsorship from many great businesses, not least our headline sponsors this year, the NFU, Waitrose and Nicholas & Harris.
This is not a money-making exercise for us – actually quite the opposite – but it has tremendous value to all concerned.
Once again, as we count down the last handful of days, we are really well booked with exhibitors and delegates. If this blog post is just serving to remind you that you wanted to come, there are some tickets left, but please get in touch straight away because we have to finalise catering and we’d hate you to miss out!
If you would like to whet your appetite, we’ve published four videos looking at the crop trials and other aspects of the build-up to the day, including the latest one uploaded today of our host, Mark Lea, telling us what being involved has meant to him already.
To everyone who is joining us in Shifnal next week, we look forward to welcoming you. Anyone want to place a bet on the weather???
