Sam talks up organics

Date Published: 08/01/2009

Given the doom and gloom everyone seems so prone to at the moment, it was great to hear licensee, Sam Barker, doing a very upbeat radio interview this morning.

Sam was speaking live from Great Berwick farm, just outside Shrewsbury, to tell BBC Radio Shropshire reporter, Ian Perry, how the Barker family sees its farming prospects for 2009. Sam is pictured here (at the back) with his wife, Claire, and parents on the day of the OF&G organic arable event, hosted by them in 2008.

They had a good year with their longhorn beef, selling it locally – and, in fact, selling out over Christmas. The loyal following they have for their quality product is a great example of successfully building your own market.

You can listen again (for the next few days at least) on the BBC iPlayer. Follow this link to the Eric Smith breakfast show, then click through to about 1hr 19mins on the timer to get to the start of Sam’s interview.
