Phoenix Speciality Oils
Enterprises/Activities: Cold pressed seed oil processing and production/ Contract filling and packing
Phoenix Speciality Oils was founded in 2007 by family-run farming firm Hammond Produce.
Led by managing director Ben Guy and a team of food technology experts, Phoenix set out to raise the quality standards of the cold pressed seed oils market by using only the finest, British-grown ingredients and striving for a completely traceable, sustainable supply chain; from seed to shelf.
It has since grown to become the UK’s largest producer of cold pressed seed oils, supplying 3 million litres of expertly filtered, high-quality oil each year to major FMCG retailers for food and non-food uses nationwide, as well as a wide range of industrial and export markets.
It also supplies contract filling and packing services to global brands such as Vita Coco, which approached Phoenix in autumn 2014 to be the contract filler for the launch of its new organic cold pressed coconut oil range in the UK.
A delicate heating and filling process has been required to produce an organic cold pressed coconut oil of such high quality. To preserve the oil’s integrity, Phoenix gently heats the oil for 10 hours up to 30°C, melting it for filling without causing damage or risking its cold pressed status. It is then bottled as a liquid into high quality, UK sourced jars, secured with ‘lollipop’ security seal labels and packed for dispatch.
Because brands like Vita Coco emphasis quality at every step of their supply chain, Phoenix’s OF&G Processor Certification has made all the difference. It allows Ben and his team to develop and process more organic products for their customers who, in turn, can satisfy the growing demand among consumers for organically-sourced products.
