Wales’ flagship farming programme on S4C, Ffermio (yes, ‘Farming’), descended on OF&G licensee, Capestone Organic Poultry, for a lengthy segment in its most recent show.

We mention this here because you can catch the repeat online for the next 28 days and it’s a fascinating look at a large, diversified farming and food production business. If you don’t happen to speak Welsh — and the programme is almost entirely in Welsh — there’s a very handy subtitles button on the player.

To give you some headlines, owners Justin and Kate Scale, raise 65,000 turkeys, sell 10,000 organic chickens per week and have now created extra business that sees them turnover 4,000 poussin every week. As well as this they are producing beef and lamb for baby food manufacturers and selling a variety of other products through the business, ranging from pork to salmon.

Though not covered in this programme, the farm has also been highlighted recently for its trials in developing alternative nutrition sources for poultry.
